Enhanced by the enchanted setting of the Optical Museum, over 450 objects describe the evolution of Optics during the last three hundred years, in vastly different fields encompassing Astronomy, Nautical Instruments, Topography, Microscopy, Laser and Holography. Unique in France, the Museum is proud of the regional technical heritage: several Alsatian-born mechanical engineers and scientists such as Jecker, Kalt, Thomas, Silbermann or Alfred Kastler, the Physics Nobel Prize, achieved international fame and greatly contributed to the development of Optics and of Precision Mechanics. The Museum was one of the laureates of the Alsace Foundation in 1993.
